NELSON MEMORIAL HALL
Nelson Memorial Hall
This is Burnham Thorpe's superb village hall. It's a great venue for family parties, wedding receptions, talks, concerts, shows, films, exhibitions, and much more. It is a modernised, multi-purpose hall with a stage area, a well-equipped kitchen, a toilet for disabled people, a baby-changing area and an easy-access wheelchair ramp.
It has a beautiful interior with an exposed-beam roof. The hall also boasts a variety of Nelson-related items, and also a 'sprung' wooden floor - perfect for dancing! Outside the hall is an area for parking approximately 20 cars, and the playing field with its young children's play area is right opposite. The hall has a beautiful outlook across the field to the river Burn and 'The Lord Nelson' pub.
The hall was built in the 1890s as a temporary place of worship while some building work was going on at the Church, after which it was leased to the village. Extensions were added to the front and side in the 1950s. There are regular yoga classes in the hall, and it also hosts a flourishing table-tennis club, among other activities. The hall even has its own Facebook page - just search for 'Burnham Thorpe Village Hall'.
